Coaching Team
Steve Hagen
Head Coach
Steve Hagen is a former NFL and College Football Coach and is currently the head coach of the NFL Academy (2023). He was an assistant coach for the Cleveland Browns (2001-2004), (2009-2012) and New York Jets (2013-2015). He has coached at over a dozen college football programs, including Notre Dame (1989-1990) and the University of North Carolina (2007-2008).
Clayton Turner
Offensive Coordinator
Clayton Turner started his collegiate career as a Quarterback at Monroe College (2013-2014) before transferring to the University of Miami (2015-2016) and transitioned to coaching while studying for a master’s at Lamar University (2016-2017). He moved to Germany, starting as a QB coach at the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes (2018), then moved to the Kirchdorf Wildcats (2019-2020) as Offensive Coordinator. Before accepting a position at the NFL Academy (2023) as Offensive Coordinator, he also coached the Ravensburg Razorbacks (2022-2023), which garnered praise for their elite offense.
Daniel Docal
Defensive Coordinator
Daniel Docal, a former Defensive Back from Madrid, started playing for his home team, the Osos Rivas, before moving to Germany to play for the Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns and the Hildesheim Invaders in the GFL1. He was identified as a CFL Global Prospect and moved to America to play for the Generals of the USFL. After returning to Europe, he played for the Leipzig Kings in the ELF before retiring. He started his coaching career at Bucknell University, serving as an assistant and Corner Backss coach for the 2022 season. In the 2023 season, he served as the Defensive Coordinator for the Danube Dragons, hosting the #1 defense in Austria and winning the National Championship, before accepting the position of Defensive Coordinator for the NFL Academy.
Gavin Collins
Offensive Line Coach
Gavin Collins began coaching the Oxford Brookes Panthers (2000-2011) as Offensive Line coach shortly after completing his playing career. Accepting a role as Offensive Line coach at the London Warriors (2012-2017), he won 4 Nationtal titles before taking a position with the NFL Academy (2019), where he currently coaches the Offensive Line group. Gavin is the longest-serving coach alongside Ian Jacquet, the Wide Receivers coach.
Chase Baker
Linebackers Coach
Chase Baker, a former American football Defensive Tackle, played at Boise State (2007-2011), where he graduated and was signed for the Minnesota Vikings (2012-2014) in the NFL. Baker transitioned to coaching, including coaching High School for three years, and was the Defensive Line Coach for the Fan Controlled Football League (2021). He accepted a role as the Defensive Line coach for the Barcelona Dragons (2022-2023) before taking a position as the Linebacker coach of the NFL Academy in 2023.
Ian Jacquet
Wide Receivers Coach
Ian Jacquet, an 8-time national champion player and coach and 2015 Britbowl MVP, started his coaching career with the U16 and U19 London Warriors (2011-2015). In 2015, he was promoted to Wide Receiver coach for the London Warriors (2015-2019) while still playing for the Warriors. Since 2019, he has been the Wide Receiever coach at the NFL Academy, serving with coach Gavin as the longest-serving staff member.
George Reynolds
Tight Ends Coach
George Reynolds, an NFL Academy (2019-2020) graduate, earned a scholarship to the University of Ottawa to play Quarterback before accepting a Development Assistant and Tight Ends coach for the NFL International Player Pathway Program. (2021). He is currently the Tight Ends coach for the NFL Academy (2023).
Eli Turner
Running Backs Coach
Eli Turner, a four-year starting Running Back at Davidson College (2018-2022), transitioned to coaching in 2022 when he moved to England to achieve a master’s in Sport Business while simultaneously playing and coaching for Leeds Carnegie American Football (2022-2023). Continuing to gather experience, he was a coaching scholar for the Yorkshire Academy of American Football (2022-2023) and coached the U11 and U14 flag and U16 tackle football teams. In 2023, Eli accepted a position as Running Back coach for the NFL Academy after being introduced to the team around NFL events he volunteered at.
Cameron Winston
Defensive Backs Coach
Cam Winston, a former Defensive Back, started his college career at Fort Scott Community College (2013) before transferring to the University of Nevada-Reno (2015-2016) and Nebraska Kearney (2017-2018). Once he graduated, Winston transitioned into coaching Character Development at IMG Academy (2019-2023), working with athletes across five sports from all around the world. In 2023, he accepted the Defensive Back coach position for the NFL Academy.
Key Staff
Lamonte Winston
Head of NFL Academy
Lamonte Winston graduated from San Francisco State University and started his career at the collegiate level before transitioning into the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993 as an administrative assistant. Winston spent 17 years with the Chiefs (1993-2010) as an area scout and executive director of player development before accepting a role with the Oakland Raiders (2012-2019) as the Director of Player Engagement. In 2023, he joined the NFL Academy as head of the Academy.
Kris Durham
Head of Football
Kris Durham is a former NFL wide receiver drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2011. Graduating from Georgia (2006-2010), he would be drafted in the fourth round by the Seahawks and would continue to play for them, the Lions, Titans, and Raiders. He also played in Italy for the Parma Panthers (2017-2018) before retiring. Since then, Durham has joined as the head of football for the NFL Academy.
Chris Baird
Head of Performance
Chris oversees the performance support for our NFL Academy athletes as well Loughborough University athletes. A former Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach, he holds an undergraduate degree in Sports and Exercise Science and a postgraduate degree in Strength and Conditioning. Chris is a UKSCA and has nearly a decades experience in the Strength and Conditioning field.
Alison Wyeth
NFL Academy Director
Alison has an extensive background as a high performing track athlete having represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games. Her previous roles were held with British Athletics, the Commonwealth Games, British Olympic Association, Loughborough University and British Triathlon.
